Girls Lacrosse v Mizzentop played on Monday May 14th, 2012 (H)

Girls’ Lacrosse vs. Mizzentop

The DDS GLAX team played a soggy game with Mizzentop at home on Monday. Despite the drizzle, the scoring began quickly when Jasmine made a nice pass to Anna, who took the ball in to score one minute into the game. Dutchess Day continued to pressure Mizzentop’s defense through out the half, with Ellery, Caterina, Tia, and Anna all finding the goal net with their shots. Wynne, who was in the goal for the entire game, made some outstanding saves, including several that were shot from up close. Mizzentop was able to score a few goals, so the tally at the end of the half was close—DDS-6 and Mizzentop-4. In the second half, DDS opened up the game. Again, Anna, Caterina, Ellery and Tia scored, but Claudia also added one. Danielle kept the Mizzentop defense on their toes with some strong shots. For the Mizzentop offense, Ellie did a nice job of weaving through the defense to score for her team. Wynne remained tough in goal, allowing only three goals for the half. DDS’s passing was excellent in the second half, with several people lending assists to our scorers—Ellery, Caterina, Olivia, Jasmine and Tia. Annabelle and Ava were terrific at hustling to the ball and assuring our possession, while Maddie, Simone, Katherine, Samantha, Lucy and Olivia all but shut down Mizzentop’s offense in the half. Tess also had a good game, playing several positions in the process. DDS came away with the win, 13-6.

Boys Lacrosse v Trinity Pawling played on Monday May 14th

DDS played its most inspiring game of the season on Monday losing at Trinity Pawling 6-2. DDS was short on players and big on effort on Monday. With only two subs, DDS played a closer match than the first game against Trinity Pawling. DDS jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half from goals by Tommy and Henry. However, the lack of numbers proved costly as Trinity Pawling out scored DDS 6-0 the rest of the way. I could not be more proud of the effort and leadership of our 8th grade. Carter was spectacular in the back, Henry added his first career goal, and Sam played very well in the midfield. The entire team showed immense effort, and several players contributed at multiple positions on the field. We have two more games left, and with efforts like this one, I know we will finish strong.

Girls Lacrosse game v Millbrook Rec played on Wednesday May 9th, 2012

Girls’ Lacrosse vs. Millbrook Rec

On Wednesday, the girls’ lacrosse team played Millbrook Rec at Dutchess Day School. The game was one for the ages. Both teams came out strong, with aggressive play at both ends of the field. Millbrook scored first on a fast break to goal. At three minutes into the first half, Jasmine sent a nice pass to Anna, who drove to the goal and scored. For the rest of the half, Millbrook dominated, and was up two goals until the last few minutes, when DDS came roaring back to score three goals and take the lead at halftime, 6-5. Katherine had a save in goal the first half, and Maddie’s interception near the goal not only prevented a scoring attempt by Millbrook, but set up a DDS drive and score. In the second half, both teams continued to play hard. There were many scoring attempts, but Wynne had five great saves in goal to keep the game close. First Millbrook scored, then DDS scored and so it continued for the rest of the game. Both teams ended up scoring four goals in the second half. One of the Tigers’ goals came on a great pass from Samantha to Anna, who found the net once again. In total, three Dutchess Day players came away with goals. Anna had five, Caterina had four, and Ellery had one. Ellery also had an interception in the second half, to prevent a goal. This was a real team effort for DDS. Seven players assisted in the scoring by feeding great passes to the shooters—Jasmine, Olivia, Tia, Danielle, Ava, Annabelle and Caterina all helped. The game came down to one final shot in the last forty seconds or so of the game. Dutchess Day went up by one goal and held off Millbrook to win the game 10-9.

Girls Lacrosse v IMS played on Friday May 4th, 2012

DDS Girls’ Lacrosse Report #3
On Friday, the girls’ lacrosse team went to Indian Mountain School to play. IMS had a young team, which gave the younger DDS players a lot of playing time, and allowed some players to try out different positions. DDS dominated the game from the beginning. The first goal came off the starting draw, with a nice pass to Ava. By halftime, most of the eighth graders were cheering on their younger teammates, and the score stood at 5-2. In the second half, the game was more even, with scoring opportunities for both sides. Each team earned four goals in the second half. In all, seven DDS players scored: Annabelle, Ava, Claudia, Samantha, and Ellery all had one goal, while Caterina and Anna each had two apiece. Caterina, Ellery, Claudia, and Samantha also assisted in the effort with nice feeds to their teammates. At the defensive end, Maddie was on fire, with several recoveries and interceptions, while Simone, Lucy, Jasmine and Olivia all held off the IMS attack. Katherine and Wynne shared goal duties once again on a hot, humid day. Each of them had some nice saves on shots to goal. The final score was DDS- 9 and IMS- 6. It was a great game for the Dutchess Day Tigers!

DDS Boys Lacrosse v IMS played on Friday May 4th, 2012

The lacrosse team lost 8-5 to IMS on Friday in an exciting game. IMS jumped out to an early 6-3 lead at halftime only to have DDS storm all the back to make it 6-5 with two minutes remaining in the game. IMS scored the pull away goal on a ball that hopped over Zack’s shoulder.
Our effort was excellent in the second half. They truly showed their resolve holding IMS scoreless in the second half until two minutes remained. The defense was a bit shaky to start the game; however Carter, Nick, Leonardo, and Corey showed great teamwork in the second half limiting the shot opportunities for IMS.
The midfielders also improved throughout the game. There were a couple defensive breakdowns in the first half, however they really focused and produced a team effort in the second half. Tommy and Will played significant minutes during what seemed like unseasonal temperatures. Cooper and Sean showed some true flashes of athleticism throughout the match. Sam and Peter both expressed a much more aware defensive approach in the second half. The midfielders’ defensive contribution in the second half directly correlated to the defensive success.
The attack worked very well with one another throughout the game. IMS had a pressure style defense, and we matched their intensity. Henry is beginning to come into his own as a lacrosse player. Ben and Neil both showed some determination as they played through their sicknesses. Zander contributed an excellent goal, and continues to progress playing attack.
In goal Zack is continuing to impress in his first season as a lacrosse goalie. His stick skills are improving and Zack has shown great reaction ability in the goal thus far.
Next game: DDS takes on B.D.S on Monday at home.
