Health education is an integral part of Dutchess Day School’s curriculum. In the lower school (grades K through 4), students have ten one hour sessions. In the upper school this increases to twenty sessions for grades five and six and continues for the whole year in grades seven and eight. Each grade studies a variety of topics which are taught at age-appropriate levels under the following unit headings: Character Theme, Emotional Health, Substance Abuse (Decision Making and Refusal Skills), Our Bodies, Safety and Diet & Exercise. Using a variety of resources the students learn through discussion, role play and presentations by visiting speakers.
